Help, I just purchased a late model 1958 Corvette, previous owner or owners had put in a 1964 Chevy Nova engine with a Muncie M20 4 speed trans, looked like it went through the Viet Nam War. I found a late model Corvette engine Ser # 3756519, my question; can I install a 61-62 Borg Warner with the following info;
"Main Case shows " T10-1 W.G.Div." with a tag showing "2-6" and the shift cover shows "0 17 62A". This case is cast iron. Tail Case shows "T10-7B W,G. Div." and a tag showing "8-30-61". This case is aluminum.
Comes with Bellhousing #3779553. Will this set up fit my Vette ? John

It's my understanding that muncies are a better trans then the B/W. So why the change

Most say that the T10 was the standard transmission for the 58, I'm trying to stay period correct, I may have to do more research. Thanks for the input. John

Yes the B/W was the original manual trans for that year Muncies did not come out until mid 63 production. But you state you have a non original engine. So at that point why does a trans that really no body can see mater. If it works fine with no noise I would keep on driving it.

Ps what do you mean a late model 58

The total production of the 58 was 9,100. My car has a vin of 8,831. so it was a later production car, I believe this matters in some cases because there were minor changes to the car over the production period. Also, I found a 1958 Corvette engine which I'm having rebuilt so I would like to keep the major components of the car period correct. Please bear in mind I'm new at this and don't have as much experience as most of the members, but I'm learning fast with the help from members like you. Thank you again. John
