Drove the car initially with the Hurst shifter that came with the car, wanted a more original look? So went back to the regular GM shifter
Think I will go back to the Hurst.... seems tiny sitting in your hand and you do not get a strong feel its in the gear you have selected... Must take sometime to get used too? If you have a big hand that little tiny black ball does not give you a strong feeling lol
My split window (with original Muncie) has the Hurst shifter and I have no desire to swap it out. Nice precise, no BS shifts. I just replaced the nylon bushing and clips on the rods with a Hurst "Pit Pack". Now its even better !
What is the difference between a SWC shifter and a common convertible shifter?
Shifter was the same for the coupes and convertibles with borg warners and muncies. 63 Borg Warner linkages were different from the 63 Muncie linkages.

Dennis, if your Hurst has the bolt on shift lever (as opposed to some of the early Competition Plus' that came with the lever welded) you can purchase one of the "look-alike" levers and bolt it to your Hurst. They're carried by most of the vendors for about $100. It will look original, but function just as a regular Competition Plus.

Good luck... GUSTO
But, you'll be back to the tiny ball in your hand.

The ball that goes on my '73 with the Competition Plus (similar to this one sold for the '63) feels about the same size as the "old" style Hurst ball from back in the day.
The Hurst shifter that came with my '63 when purchased in 1969, has the welded lever, so changing it out isn't an option unless I change to the later Competition Plus. Back then I installed the Hurst T-handle and I'll be stickin' with it ...until something moves me...
I think I read that the '63 Muncie shifter rods actually crossed and that was changed in '64. Somebody put the repro shifter (as shown above) on my Hurst.

Frankie- I changed out my stock shifter on the B/W 63 trans for a Hurst with the original looking stick, and though it makes a precise, short shift as you say, I still kinda pine for the feel of the Hurst ball. It fills your hand nicely, as opposed to that small stock diameter ball. I will never go back to the stock shifter, though.
