Default 67 Antenna mounting problems

I have a 1967 corvette and I am trying to mount the antenna but having trouble with it. First off I can barley get the antenna up far enough for the nut to grab the antenna and hold it in place. Then once i was able to get it to grab and tighten it, but then a few seconds later the nut popped off. So if anyone can give me any advice on how I can get the antenna mounted correctly, that would be great.

This install is a pita. IMHO the parts were poorly designed. You will see lots of cars where the antenna body sits down in the nut leaving a big gap. I filed the antenna body do it would fit up into the nut further.

Sorry no picture of it but it's self explanatory when you look at your antenna body. The top portion is threaded for the nut to grip. Then it becomes non-threaded. The problem is that the threaded portion is not long enough to go through metal grounding plate, the body and into the nut. Look at where the threads stop, it creates a shoulder in the antenna body that prevents the nut from going downwards and engaging more threads. I filed about 3/16" width of material off the main body that essentially moves that shoulder downwards 3/16". I just kept filing until the nut was able to engage about 5-6 turns.

had this trouble when doing dads car. his original one fit perfect. we ended up using a rat tail file and filled down the brace on the copper ground plate. it took a few tries until we got it to work

I have ground the slots in the grounding plate deeper to allow more of the antenna base to go through the body and creates more threads for the nut to grab. No pictures available, but it is easy to do with a small grinder or cut off wheel.
