3919842 Aluminum Head Question
I posted this in the C3 section but considering the date code on one of the heads, I figured I'd post it in the C1/C2 section as well. Any advice would be appreciated.
I've got an opportunity to buy a set of 3919842 heads and a 3933163 intake. The heads are dated 6.20.67 and 9.25.68. The heads have new seats and guides installed. No springs, rockers, valves. What would be a fair price for these parts? I've got a '55 Cameo that is going to get a big block transplant and these would be going into it.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

hard to say. they are on ebay all the time. "ready to bolt on" heads are priced from ~3K to 6K. you can go on summit or jegs and get prices for the parts needed and go from there. or stop into a machine shop and they can tell you what you will have to spend to get them into bolt on condition.
there are lots of aftermarket BBC aluminum heads that are better and probably a lot less money.

If the engine you're building is not for a date-coded numbers matching type car, you can get better and cheaper new heads and intake.
The market price you would pay for these is driven by people looking for date-coded parts no longer being made, to return a car to original numbers.
Love me some Cameo trucks, btw.

I've already committed to buy the heads and intake so I can't really go back on my word. Maybe I'd be better off trying to resell them and buying new aluminum heads?
Thanks for the feedback so far.

Your honor has no price, so if you've committed to buy them, then I understand why you need a price guide. Sorry, can't help you there.
But, you could certainly resell them and, if you buy them at a good price, then you resell them and buy new ones. You could make money on the deal.

Any welds or repairs to the heads or intake? Have checked for cracks? Have they been ported? Are the heads still setup for stock size valves?.Used aluminum heads tend to have issues. These heads are not worth anything near $3-6K.They are not rare as they can be found at every decent sized swap meet. If no cracks or repairs and all check out OK $1500

Well I told him I would buy the heads, so I did. A person's word as mentioned.....
They actually look really nice . New guides and seats. No welds, porting or cracks..... that I could see anyway.
Would the September '67 date code be an L88 head and the September '68 be an L89?
Thanks, I appreciate all the information.

These heads were available as an option on 396-375 Camaros and Chevelles, in addition to being available through any Chevy parts department. The dates do not guarantee that they came on an L-88 or L-89 originally, but it is indeed possible. They look nice.

Do both heads have a threaded boss for the temp sender? That was added for all 68 production heads. But not sure what about date they started

Both castings are the same. The '67 head is furthest from the wall. Are these the bosses you're asking aboutt?
