66 427 390, changed the carburetor base gasket (mr. gasket type) looked a little thin, reused the metal baffle plate and have a vacuum leak now. Are those metal baffle plates reuseable? Thanks
not sure without looking in the AIM that I don't have around me. if something is warped you would need to get it planed off. did you make sure the metal baffle was cleaned off.
also did you make sure your vacuum advance can is in working order
I cleaned everything spotless. Put it back on, then I sprayed the bottom of the carb base and the rpm's go up. The tack goes up and down, 500 rpm's at a time.
Could be a warped carb base. Are you sure you didn't have a leak before? I ask because you don't say why you replaced the gasket. If not, try tightening the base nuts a bit more but NOT real tight then check it again.
I had a insulator on, took it off. The rpm's did move up and down before. Checked all hoses, everything was fine. Can a thicker gasket work?
You might get lucky with a thicker gasket. BTW, did you check your advance can as Nowhere Man suggested? If so, I would remove the carb, since it sounds as though you've confirmed that's the location of the leak, and run a straight edge across the underside of the base plate, checking across the bolt holes as well, and intake. If in fact the base is warped which, btw is quite common, I'd recommend sending it out to Eric Jackson for a rebuild since it most likely needs a few other things addressed. If its the manifold you could have it planed at a machine shop.

I used these gaskets, one under the insulator and one under the carb, I also blocked the exhaust holes, no issues.
They're thick, but if the base is warped, it probably wont fix it
