Default Battery install

Just wanted to put this out there. Changed battery in my 66 no a/c. Removed expansion tank put straps around battery both sideways and length wise. This allowed me to lift out the battery. On install put straps around and lifted it and it slid right in. I know some have talked about removing tire but this was very easy to do. I'm probably not the first to do it this way but thought I would just put it out there hoping it would make life easier for someone. Bought a delco 24 for $90 700 cca 42 month replacement.

The factory AC cars have the battery on the drivers side. Removal is usually thru the access panel cut into the inner fender. To make it easier, the left front tire is removed.

No tire needs to be removed for the non-ac cars. But it sounds like you found a good/neat way to get the job done.

I have a 67 factory AC coupe with a new factory look alike battery coming next week. I am so glad I saw your post before the battery got here as I had no idea there was an access panel. Thanks for the favor.

My 66 has the access panel with the battery on the driver's side. I replaced my battery two weeks ago. I took me 38 minutes to remove the tire, remove the panel and take the battery out. I installed a fresh Optima red top. While the battery was out I detailed the area and then installed the new battery. BTW, I bought the Optima from the local Interstate distributor. Interstate now has an AGM battery which they claim is better than the Optima. It also costs about $40 more than the Optima ( $190 vs $230). I have had good luck with the Optima's.
