What does this chalk mark mean?

Default What does this chalk mark mean?
On the right front passenger side floor board this chalk mark is on the fiberglass of my 64 365 hp AC car. Maybe a poor 81? John Z?

its the ident number. that number will be found on both doors, in front of the gas tank on the bulk head, and where you found it. the numbers went from 1 to 500 and started over

Thanks I guess that's short for identification number? Was it put on in the body shop then and just relates to the body not the VIN?

yes the body shop put that on. there is a way to relate that to the vin. I have read up on it a long time ago. I can't remember how it was done.

They were numbered 1-500, then repeated.
