a 75 disc brake set up fit on a 63 drum drum set up?
Thanks
George
Hey George. You can use from 65 to 82 disc brake setup on the 63. You need the disc brake spindles. You will need to trim the upper brackets for the trailing arm bumpers flush with the frame or you will have interference with the calipers. You will need to use wheels that will clear the calipers or use spacers. VAN STEEL has a conversion parking brake cable setup for the disc brake conversion from drums.
If you have a donor disc brake car cannibalize the complete system.
I have a 63 vette. Put 65 vette spindles on and installed 65 vette front disc brakes. They work wonderful. Contact Corvette Stainless Steel Brakes. 305-256-8077
I have '75 front brakes on my '64. Just take everything between the ball joints.
If you change out the M/C, the 1" Corvette M/C will work for manual brakes, but the bore is really a bit large and you will probably get a better pedal "feel" using a Wilwood with a 7/8" or 15/16" bore (but much more $$$ than a rebuilt GM part). If you retain the drums in the rear, and use the Corvette M/C, add a proportioning valve and 10# residual valve to that line where it comes off of the master cylinder.
If you do elect to just do the fronts, don't mix metallic disk pads with the organic drum pads.
It is more important to put a set of good disks/pads on front, than the added benefit of trying to change over the rear set-up that is far more complicated.
