Looking at a 66 coupe on e bay. I was wondering why there is AA after the paint code. 982AA. And trim 430AA. What does the AA stand for and why to some trim tags not have the AA thanks. Clayton
Not all 66 corvettes paint codes had the AA. Cars that were built at the A O Smith plant did not have the AA after it. As far as I know the AA had nothing to do with base car or single color.
All ST LOUIS built cars had the AA after the PAINT CODE. All AO Smith cars used the same paint codes without the AA after them. The AA after the TRIM code is the ECL code and showed excluded options. AA was considered the base option car. The black vinyl interiors (std) didn't have ECL codes.
Use this if you want to narrow down specific codes or ecl exclusions:
AA and AB indicate upper and lower colors. A code with AA would mean single color upper and lower. AB would indicate a two tone. In the regular car lines there were two tone combinations, but it does not apply to the early corvette which were all single colors, except for those few that had striping or coves. In that case C1 cars had individual codes to indicate them, but they are not marked on the vehicle like they were for the C2 cars.

That seems to make more sense beacuse I'm lookin at the two mosport green 66 coupes on e bay one 982 on the trim tag and the the one I'm considering is 982 (AA) Just trying to learn as much as I can before I take the trip to look at the car Thanks for the input.

So if some of my literature shows paint code 982 comes up as silver green ans some say mosport green. What is the correct color for paint code 982. Mosport or silver green?????

We have always called it Mosport. I wouldnt be too concerned about names. Same colors often have different names. In the paint books the same color will be called different names by the various car lines, but actually be the same color. Chev, Olds, and Pontiac might have the same color, but call them any name they want. The formulas are based on the code and year without regard for names.
