Default Performance Muffler

I recently purchased a 1966 corvette with stock exhaust and was wondering if anyone could recommend a more throaty sounding performance muffler that would work with all the other exhaust components ? I have a 327 engine.

I recommend doing a search on YouTube. Based on reading other CF posts and seeing several YouTube videos, I purchased the N-11 Off-Road exhaust from Corvette Central for my '65 327. Unfortunately, I have not heard the exhaust yet as the car is still being assembled. Once the car is done I will post an update....hopefully before Thanksgiving.

Thanks,
Michael

First, which 327 (year and HP) do you have? Second, what size exhaust pipes? Third, I can guarantee you that you're gonna get LOTS of differing opinions.

Michael,

Thanks for the input. That may be just the solution for my too quiet car.
I plan on pulling the engine and tranny for some much needed mechanical and cosmetic upgrades/repairs before I tackle the exhaust enhancement so I have some time to do some research. Please let me know how you like the off -road exhaust.

Gary,

1966, 327-350hp. As far as the exhaust size, I believe it's stock for that engine. I just got the car last week and had my first opportunity yesterday to survey the underside for things that need to be done and things I would like upgraded. My last car was Factory 5 cobra I built, 351W w/440 hp and side pipes. I miss that rumble but right now I would be satisfied for anything above a purr.lol

Same year and motor as my car, you should have 2 1/2" pipes. I'm running Magnaflows, which l think have a nice sound but "rumble" is a very relevant term. That's why I said that opinions will vary.

I have a 66 327/300 with CC N-11 mufflers. One of the best mods I have ever made. Sound great and no bothersome drone at highway speeds.

I have CC N11 mufflers on my 327/365. I liked the sound when I first put them on, and like it a whole lot more a year later. They have gotten a bit deeper in sound after running a few couple thousand miles thru them.

were you able to do the install or did ir require some custom fabrication of the pipes, into and out of the mufflers?

Thanks to all for the input. So many options from side pipes, to chambered exhaust, CC N-11 mufflers, Magnaflow and others. The utube videos were a great resource for listening to all the different setups with similar engine configurations as mine but also added to the quandary of which setup to choose.I guess at this point I'll make a decision after engine, suspension and transmission enhancements are done. All the above options are a step up from the conventional too quiet exhaust...or perhaps my hearing is just bad.lol

out the rear

the low horsepower small blocks {hydraulic cam} were 2 in. exhaust pipes to the muffler and 1 7/8 out the back.......

I purchased the exhaust system as a whole from Corvette Central. Fit was perfect and they give you the option of ordering the muffler of your choice whether it be off road, Magnaflow, Flowmasters, etc. I chose Magnaflow for sound AND performance. Some don't like a sectional system, because they claim they have problems with leaks. I have had no such problems and I like the fact that I'm able to remove it in sections if I need to do repairs without having to remove the entire system.

Center Dump ceramic coated headers. 3 inch exhaust all the way back to Flowmaster 40s. Your car will suddenly breathe like GM should have let it back in '66... and they'll know you're coming.
While you're at it... give that 327 a break and dump that stock intake too. Edelbrock Performer will make a huge difference. You can save the parts and always go back to boring old stock.
