Car : 63 coupe, 300hp. Car was sitting for many many years and a complete frame off restoration performed. Trans gone thru and all seals, clutches, band, and modulator replaced. Nothing abnormal seen during overhaul. And yes, I have adjusted the linkage and kickdown 6 ways from sunday with no changes.
Problem: When cold, trans shift into 2cnd instantly. When warm, trans sometimes wont shift out of first, or while driving in second, in will drop down into first with no warning. Also when warm, it feels as if the trans goes into neutral at idle while still in the drive position. When you give it a little gas, it bangs into gear.
I am by no means a transmission expert, but think it is a pump or pressure problem. Anyone experienced with powerglides ? Any input would be helpful before I decide to pull the trans out. Not an easy job, so if I can do something with it still in the car ??
Don't mean to offend but, my car as doing same thing...check fluid levels with right fluid?

Unless the transmission was rebuilt by a qualified experienced re-builder familiar with the 'glide I would suspect assembly error. This transmission is eminently simple and bulletproof. Only abuse takes them out once in, and only putting one together wrong can keep one from being "in."
Update : After pressure testing and checking all other possible adjusments, decided to replaced the governor. Walla !!! that fixed it. Upon disassembly, found that the governor washer was split and binding causing the governor weights not to move fully causing pressure loss. Picked up a nos unit on e-bay for 75$. Hope this helps anyone with a similar problem.
