I just installed new correct "M" head mark intake manifold bolts, and although the car is in a climate-controlled garage and hasn't been run yet, the head of the bolts at the rear of the engine have already rusted!
That's not uncommon. You could use VHT Clear spray. Some bolts get painted the engine color. It depends on the year and engine in your car. More important, did you coat the threads with a sealant to prevent oil from wicking up the threads? Extra note! I hope the bolts you replaced each matched exactly the length and location as you worked. I think #4 and #5 cylinder exhaust pushrods could be pinched by a too longer of a bolt. Someone else on here may check to see if I'm correct. Dennis

Dennis, the bolts are correct, were of identical length, were treated with ARP thread sealant and arrived black in color. It's only the back two that have rusted (so far), so I suppose I could spray the rest with VHT clear while they're on the engine. I'll probably have to pull all the bolts and paint them. Grrrrr.
Maybe clean them up in place and use clear fingernail polish. It may be less work than pulling them. Good luck.
I took my dremel and lightly wire brushed each and then put clear fingernail polish on the head bolts. Works perfectly. I have used it on non stainless fuel line and brake line.
