I bought a replacement ignition switch from LIC (their part number 39-18A) with the thought that this unit might be a bit less easy to circumvent. I had a 63 converible in Houston while I was in college that was stolen 3 times and i got it back all 3 times! I figure I've used up my good luck.
I misplaced the installation instructions from LIC, but I got the original tumbler out with the paper clip. Are there any tricks for installation of the new unit? I noted a post about springs popping out of the unit.
Since it's a '63, and many features are unique to that year I can't help you on the installation with any tips. I also don't think you have done anything to prevent anyone, even the most inept thief, from stealing your car. This is a very exciting subject that has been discussed many times here on the CF. You can, if I remember correctly install the switch the same way you removed it...Paper clip in the tiny hole and turn the key all the way to the left on the switch and on the Vette...
you should see a 4 digit number group on the lock cylinder which is the key code....that group of numbers is used to cut some spares. GM keys havs 6 cuts....
