66 coupe - am contemplating using mid-rise intake manifold on my small block engine - is there air cleaner (stock) to engine hood clearance for this or do I need to re-think air filter options ? - Thx to all for taking the time to help !

What carb do you now have? The carb you use will dictate what air breather/element (stock or aftermarket) you use and that combined with your choice on manifold will play in the fit/clearance under the hood. This subject has been discussed before and may be listed in the "Sticky" section on the top of the page. Dennis

Your 1966 drop base air cleaner is the best that you'll be able to find. You might be able to put a Z28/LT1 intake on with no interference, but depending on body mount/shims use and condition, it will be VERY close. The interference point will be on the outboard edge of the air cleaner lid on the passenger side.

Use 4 putty or aluminum foil ***** placed on 4 points around the lid, gently close the hood and measure your clearance.

Edelbrock Performer should fit as well, but the Performer RPM will be too tall.

I used a Z28 for my build, and ended up adding shims to the body mounts to gain hood clearance.
