Default Shifting problems

This winter when I had the motor and trans out I installed a Hurst competition plus shifter. It shifted smoothly before reinstalling. Now every once and awhile I have hard time getting it to shift from 1st to 2nd. But no trouble going from 3rd to 2nd. This only happens once in awhile any suggestions? Thanks

If you are certain that the linkage is properly adjusted, check the 1st-2nd syncronizer ring.

I could only suggest to go back and double check the adjustment as per the installation directions.

I've had a Hurst Comp II in my 67 327/350 for two years now. I've had it off twice (tranny swap). I would take a second look at your linkage alignment - a fine adjustment can make a big difference. Also, check to make sure the linkage arms aren't hitting each other or something else (exhaust bracket, etc). Mine was a little tight 1st to 2nd as well. It's better now with some fine adjustment, but still tighter than 3rd/4th..but then again, I'm usuallly slamming it from 1st to 2nd anyway, so I guess tighter isn't all that bad! :D

Hopefully, you also purchased/installed a Hurst shifter mounting bracket and did not try to use the Chevrolet shifter mounting bracket. If you didnt use the Hurst, this is probably your problem. Additionally, you will be tearing up the rubber boot.
