Default 1955 Corvette engine

I just saw a 1955 Corvette for auction at the Mecum Kissimmee January event.
I had heard folklore that the first five to ten off the assembly line were blue flame six engines. The '55 up for auction is serial number 2, but it has an eight cylinder engine. Could it be an original engine, is the folklore wrong?

six cylinder automatics #229, 230, 233, 320, 433, 578 and all cars #676 thru #700 are eight cylinder 3-speeds.

If that is the last three digits of the serial number, what about the other 989 '55 Corvettes?

I seem to recall only 700 1955 Corvettes were built, due all the unsold 1954s still hanging around in dealer lots, and of those only 6 were built without the V8.

V8/powerglide's were the remaining production configuration.
