1957 Corvette
Tracy Performance has 57 blocks dated J 1 6 (Oct 1, 1956), J 9 6 (Oct 9, 1956), J 22 6 (Oct 22, 1956). The correct 997 heads would be expensive, but a set of 539 heads (power pack, FI heads) would not be a bad choice. These heads are all over.
Find a two bbl powerglide engine with a suffix code of F (i.e. FmmddF, where mm = month and dd = day). Change the F to an E, and then add a H at the end and you have a 245 hp, manual trans Corvette engine.
This was / is done a lot to create a restoration engine.

Well a lot of options given here. My suggestion, clean up the engine room and drop in a new crate 350. (much cheaper than rebuilding anything) Get it running during the spring and enjoy it for the summer.
This will give you time to sort out what you want to do, and buy parts accordingly, then next fall, do a frame off and have the car of your dreams.

Sorry to hear about your block Rich.
