I have one in my '61. Here is its description on the sales invoice:
TRG-RO5009A, KEISLER PERFECT FIT 600HP/600FT-LB 5-SPEED
TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY, INCL: KEISLER CUSTOM BUILT TKO-600 WITH
LOW PROFILE INTERNAL OFFSET SHIFTER, MINI-BILLET SHIFT TOWER
WITH SPECIAL 2-BOLT LEVER, 4616 CHROMOLOY GEAR SET, 1PC
COUNTER SHAFT, DUAL SPEEDO OUTPUTS, REVERSE & NEUTRAL
SWITCH OUTPUTS, 99LB WEIGHT, RATIOS: 2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1.0, 0.64
Beyond the shifter setup I'm not sure how much "custom" work was done...or if this description includes regular 'ole Tremec off-the-shelf features.

How is the shifter for the other brand tremecs different?

Here are pictures of the HURST modification to move the shifter to the left.

American Powertrain is slightly different yet.

If you are between American Powertrain and Hurst Driveline Conversions, go with Hurst. The Hurst shifter sits lower and you can actually get a stock shifter boot over it. Also, American Powertrain has some really crappy employees. I was treated like garbage by them two years ago when I had issues with one of their 5 speed tremecs and therefore Hurst Driveline Conversions gets all of my business now. Another bonus is that Hurst generally keeps the transmissions in stock and does not build to order.
