I have my original windshield from my SWC out to have the car painted. The windshield is in ok condition. Light pitting. Should I reinstall it or buy a new one. I know its important to keep the car original. If you think I should replace it can you recommend a good place to buy a new one. Thanks
You may want to take your original windshield and have it buffed out. If you are wanting a new windshield first you need to let us know where you live (maybe state and city) so some of us can recommend a place for you to go to and get a windshield.
I agree with the group. If you can bring your original to a clarity level you can accept, stay original. I just replaced the door glass to my recently acquired 63 coupe due to a past bubba hitting them deep with a DA sander. 10 days ago I received my side glass replacements from Auto City Classic Glass. Super great price, quality and shipping speed. Good folks....Hope this helps......

Replace it, your regrets will be small as compared to being able to see with clarity. If glass coding is a issue, purchase a dated coded windshield. It's great not seeing wiper marks or pits.

Even minor buffing will cause some amount of distortion and you'll notice it every time you drive the car. After a new paint job, your original glass will stand out like a sore thumb. I agree with RestoMike. Replace it. You can always hold on to the original glass in case you feel the need to go back but I think you'll appreciate a nice clear windshield to complement your new paint job.
The only problem is there no repro windshields made that are a perfect fit. (Unless you find a LOF glass made in USA 30 years ago)Some to thin, some wrong curve, if tinted there none with the correct color band on top. Look at a lot of C2's out there, at the bottom W/S the corner is not flat against the glass, the glass is not the correct size. The last one I put in I had to take a sander to the sides to make it fit as perfect as I could. No quality control.

There are concessions on most all repro products. Either one can live with it or not. I had no issues with my repro windshield. Yes the parting line for tint wasn't dead on. I made the concession to have a perfectly clear no issues windshield with excellent viability.
I reinstalled the original glass (date code correct ) but did replace the windshield as it was beyond restoring with a sand blast appearance .
The original glass has some scratches but not to bad. This was done in the mid 90's .

Just put all new date coded AUTOcity glass in the whole car. I have one issue only and that is door glass is tight, too tight for PW so have been sanding it down. Windshield fit perfectly and when in the car I see no distortion areas. I think the new rubber is the issue more so than the glass isn;t it? I used old rubber and split, and windshield went in slick. Highly recommend AutoCity
if y'all have any current recs on a good source for judging quality glass replacement please pass it along
as I said corvette central seems decent and I am gonna chat with auto city as well

I just started a related thread. I was about to order a windshield from AutoCity, but the stampings on the picture they have on the website are not right when compared to the NCRS JG. Sent them a message
Not getting any info on this though. Anyone actually buy a windshield that is NCRS correct? I always thought AC was the source.
