I searched the NCRS Archives and found an old post that stated that the part number is located in a hollow area, one part number for the right side spear and one part number for the left side spear.
We never used to have repro spears. Now we do. Has anyone seen them?
Are they any good? It might be fun to weigh them. I'm sure the repro folks are cutting corners someplace.

The reproductions are solid cast brass, and weigh about twice what the originals do (the stock '58 springs won't hold the trunk lid open with the repros).

That's what I needed to know.

Here are the pictures of the part numbers on the inside for the originals:
There is a company out there making new ones that are excellent reproductions. They had a booth at the Houston Corvette Expo, but I forget their name. I held them in my hand, and they were light, like the originals. The chrome was show quality. I think they were selling for around $2,500. Maybe they are making the ones Fuelie Dave is selling:

Thanks for the picture. I'm a long ways from needing the spears but if I fond a good original set I'd really consider buying them. If you happen to remember who made the repos I'd appreciate it. I think I've either read or heard that Crane's spears are heavy....not sure....but they really look nice.
There is an original right trunk spear on e-bay now, Item #251781337775; rechromed, Current bid $700.
I'd like a set but have considered buying one at a time. I'm in no hurry to get a set since the 58 vette will be my retirement project....several years down the line. I just keep my eyes out for parts that I need so I'll have them.
I have had repo trunk spears on my 58 for about twenty years, they are brass and the springs keep the trunk lid up.You need to lift the lid and stabilize it before you stick your head in or have some one hold it. Never trust it. I like the quality on them much better then original ones. I think the older repos are better then they are now. They cost lots more now too.BILL.
I bought a few sets about 10 years ago from a aluminum casting company in southern Texas.
Had them plated locally and they looked good and they were not heavy.
Aluminum can be difficult to plate but it is doable.
I sold them with a 58 long ago.
