Default aftermarket intake and carb kit

http://www.parts123.com/corvettecent...&searchtype=50

Has anyone ever used one of these kits from Corvette Central on their 60 vette?

Never used the kit but the Edelbrock carbs are very reliable right out of the box.
Total height is about 1/4" higher then stock, might cause a hood interference problem but probably not.
Chromed steel air cleaner is right for a GTO but not a Corvette.

My 1967 327 350hp Corvette came from the factory with a chromed steel air-cleaner lid. The 1962 also came with the chrome air cleaner as shown in the ad.

All 67 came with the chromed steel air cleaner tri powers were just a triangle (L88 not included)

While the 60?-62 air cleaner lids look the same as 64-6? GTO they are not the same

No 62 or earlier Corvettes came with chrome air cleaners except 57 and early 58 fuel injected cars. The louvered air cleaners used on 2 4 barrel setups and single 4 barrels were aluminum. C2 cars do have chrome air cleaner tops in most cases.

I am more worried about hood clearance. Edelbrock said the 2101 intake is the one to use but the 2703 is the old style with the oil tube that Corvette Central said would fit. I am puzzled.

You should be - that intake looks pretty tall to me. And those tall intake runners can make getting your distributor installed with the vacuum can in the proper position a PITA...

Betty,

I agree with everything Frankie stated.
Whenever you substitute aftermarket parts for original parts the chance of something not working or fitting correctly is increased.

A 340 HP GM intake would be great but the prices these days are STUPID HIGH.

Too bad - I just sold my Edelbrock 3CBX manifold off my 250hp 327ci - its perfect for these aftermarket swaps....

They do turn up on eBay quite often though...

Thanks everyone, I didn't know who to believe Corvette Central or Edelbrock on what would fit. I want to keep the orginal valve covers and oil tube.

If you want to check your hood to air cleaner clearance, loosely make a ball of aluminum foil, place on the air cleaner and gently close the hood completely. The open the hood and check the foil.

A piece of clay works nicely.

Per the Edelbrock catalog the 2703 manifold is about 4.27" carb pad height and the 2101 is about 4.05". I ran a 2101 and newer AFB on my '60, and it was very tight hood clearance. That looks like a 2703 in the photos. I have my doubts that the setup shown here will fit under the hood.

The 2101 manifold I had included a flat pad where the oil tube would fit, but no hole. I used a metal cutting hole saw and cut a hole and intalled an oil-fill tube. Had no problems with it.

Default I think you have a cut-and-paste error

Per the Edelbrock catalog, the 2703's carb pad height is 4.27".

If it's a tight fit with a 2101, that extra 0.22" could make the 2703 too tall, as Edlebrock says. I've noticed that Edlebrock doesn't specify years or generations. Just says, "Will not fit under stock Corvette hood."

I did the aluminum foil trick and I had 5/8" of an inch in the center of the air cleaner.

I believe the interference occurs at the back edge of the air cleaner.

Yes. If you squat down and sight along the hood surround from the side and then observe how the underside of the hood is sculpted you should be able to predict the interference points and then use the tin foil or clay trick to check clearance at those areas.

CAREFULLY lowering the hood and stopping if there is too much resistance to latch it !!

The height of the tin foil after this test will tell you the clearance - I like it better than sticky clay but either works....
My concern in the picture was the height of the compressor "ears" after installing Vintage A/C...

I did not buy this kit, but it looks identical to the set up I have on my 62 (NOM - has a 350). I can check the part numbers for the intake and carb when I get home. It is slightly higher, but it still clears my hood by about 1/2 inch. I tried to use the big Nitril head shield gasket during the install, but that was too close for comfort, so I went back to the thin gasket that comes with the carb.

Thanks that would help.
