Mike's survey data (the hard copies) are probably long gone.

His computer data has been donated to Kettering University (formally General Motors Institute). No one at Kettering is currently working on it (lack of funding).

Great information. So close....385 is listed and is only one away from my project car and it was a FI, but that really tells me nothing about mine. Oh well. Thanks for the post!

Concerning 4314,
There were some low HP automatic 57's that after visiting Ohio grew up to be Black, 283 HP , 4 speed cars...

Jerry;

Mike did keep a lot of information on his Apple II computer. I know that because he would occasionally send me dot matrix print outs of certain pieces of data. He told me that if came from his computer. He called his Apple II "Hoss".

Mike was not very much into high tech, but he was partly there.

All of his letters to me were typed on a typewriter, but he would often include printouts of the data I was asking about.

I had not heard that Ken Kayser got his hard copy data. That would be a great find.

And that got me thinking, so I went back and found my file on my first 56 Corvette. In the folder were the letters I received from Mike Hunt, and some of the printed data from his database on "Hoss".

Mike had a wealth of information. I hope that it has survived in some for or fashion.

I know that Kettering University has not done anything with his computer data because the is no funding for the retrieval effort.

I wonder if we can get some organization (I am thinking about possibly NCRS) to fund the effort to retrieve the data from Hoss.

Ed,
YES, Ken DID get Mike Hunt's data, but I do not know just how much he got. SOME of the information in Ken's book is either from, or the same as, Mike's information. Ken even mentions this in his book.

I personally wish that Mike's info (except for personal owner data) was available to all of us at no cost.

Would love to see if all posted on the internet.

Don't really expect that to happen.

Tom,

Those photos were from 10 to 15 years ago. The car is alive and well. The B&W photos from the 1957 NY Show, of which I've been told was the Waldorf Astoria in NY, but Ken and I had a long talk after his very informative presentation in Lakeland. It was about cutaway engines, cutaway cars, styling/show cars, and various GM show information. I enjoyed it very much.

He stated that the 1957 show(pictured in those B&W's, was in the new Coliseum in NY. I found those photos, and more, on a Ebay listing about 3 or 4 years ago. It was a CD that also had some videos of other Chevrolet/GM cars I hadn't seen before. It was a great find.

Several years ago someone posted Mike's data files somewhere, I've forgotten where I got them. At that time I collected about 6 of them and stored them.

Last year while going over a friend's recent '56 purchase, I recalled I had Mike's data, along with the "VE" Paperwork info. I found my friend's car listed which helped prove it's lineage, and the original color, which I saw traces of under the dash.

So last year I decided to go public with Mike's data to share it. It has never been available in that form. I have those 3 files on my site. I have 1956 and 1957 Prior Owner's Personal Data in separate files here which I did not put on my site for obvious reasons.

But Mike worked so hard to get this information and publish the pertinent info, and it would be a great tribute to him to be able to share it all to the community.

I agree 100% Rich.

Mike had quite a bit of his info stored on Hoss. He was able to do database searches of it, as he did for me a couple of times.

I applaud your posting Mike's reports on your web site, and I hope we can find a way to get Mike's data from Hoss.

Did you see post#5 and the link? I have several of Mike's RP56/57 "public" files public.

Here are the direct links.....

MH1956_1957_Corvette_Paperwork_Data

MH1956_Corvette_Data

MH1957_Corvette_Data

I also have...

RP56/57 Owner's List dated 1975 and another but unsure of date.

This is the front page.

I clearly didn't want to call each owner's phone number(if still there of course) on the 18 page list to ask their permission, to then go public with the data.

PM for more info with your email address if you'd like.

Ed, With your permission, can I put those 2 1957 pages in your first post on my website too?

Rich
p.s. The files I have are dated "2009" on my computer, so that's when I downloaded them. Someone attached them to a post on the NCRS site IIRC....?

When I bought my '57 (4922) in the spring of 1993, I wrote to Mike and bought some of his reports. The car was for sale in Wisconsin, so Mike was excited to add it to his roster.
He sent me a personal note (written on a typewriter) and gave me his thoughts on owning a 1957.

I just got my 57 back from a full restoration and tried getting to the links in this post and the 57 engine links a few post down, and it says the links are not available. Can you please repost? Thanks!
