Default Windshield Code Value

I have an all original 1965 convertible 327/300 h.p. I have owned the automobile for 32 years & am getting it painted again after 30 years. The windshield is in bad shape & it will be replaced. Can anyone give me their opinion on a date coded windshield & non-date coded windshield. Does a non date coded windshield affect the value? I have the original engine & transmission. Thanks.

Dates on the windshield is really only looked at by a very few people. To have one dated does not cost that much more

Living in Las Vegas, I can get a replacement with the proper tinting for $140. The price for the date code from an out of state outlet with shipping would be $510. Quite the difference.

Find a way to buy from them. The catch is you need a commercial adress to get one shipped My dad got a dated one shipped for around 200 bucks

I don't believe any replacement windshield manufacturer makes a 'corrected' tinted one. The band of tint is different than originals.

Copy that. Another thing to consider. When speaking to the seller (Paragon) I'll be sure to ask.

I think the difference of $370 on a number-matching '65 Corvette is insignificant.

Hey Kong
How many times have you needed correctly dated glass in the last 32 years? Got a new hobby that requires date coded glass?
if not....
$140 is pretty compelling to me...

That is correct. Nobody, LOF or Pilkington makes a correct tinted windshield................

I've bought glass from these people, Auto City Classic.

http://www.autocityclassic.com/1963-...e-convertible/

They can date code it for you. I personally would buy the date coded one

What I have done both when I lived in Maryland and now that I live in Florida is to pick up the glass at a swap meet.

They will "deliver" it to the meet FREE. You can pick it up.

Is the windshield accident damaged? if so your insurance company picks up the whole tab with no deductible to be paid by you. Mine did and I went date coded for the ''61.

Steve, you make a compelling argument. I'll take your advice. Thanks.

Chuck,

I ran up the website. Good price. I'll see if they can arrange the same shipping scenario to my body/paint man.
Thanks, Jim
