Default Harmonic Balancer

1964 convertible, 327-300HP. I need to replace the harmonic balancer on my rebuild. The one that came on the car (it's not the finned type) is 6 3/4" diameter and 2 3/8" from snout to face. Some vendors are saying this is not correct for my car.
Does anyone know what the correct size should be?
Anything over about 7 1/2" looks like it will hit the fan pulley so I'm confused as what I should have. I bought the car non running.
If I replaced it with a new one the same size, would it harm the motor or affect it in any way?
As always, thanks for the help.

I think the finned one was used in special high performance SBC. A base 300 is not. So yours could be original

6-3/4" is correct for the 300hp.

The 1964 327/300 HP engine took a balancer that is 6-1/2 inches in diameter. It is pressed on the crankshaft and is not threaded from the factory………..although some owners will drill and tap the crank for this later so they can add this bolt. The balancer is not finned.

Damper Docter and Damper Dudes may have some pictures on their websites. Also check out LICS (Long Island Corvette Supply) website…………..which will have pics of the correct one for your car.

If it original, it can be rebuilt. Look up Damper Dudes in California. Dennis

Two different companies, both located in Redding, California, and both provide the same unique services to the hobby - gotta wonder how they got started (and then separated?).
