Default 65 engine stamp

I have a friend looking at a 65 conv. He is being told it is the original block, although there are some engine parts that are not original that I was able to determine. Does seem like it would be original?

870 block cast date k254
engine stamp 5104552 FI204HF

300hp 4speed.

Any chance you could get a picture of the stamping?

In the assembly stamp, is the "1" a one or a capital I?

He didn't get a picture of it but says it looks like a lot of them that he saw online. He said the 2nd set was FI204HE (not HF, my mistake). So the "I" seems right

Without seeing it the stamping could be both original or a correct re stamp the broaching marks on the pad are the toughest part to fake.

Dave - As already mentioned, if you or your friend can supply us with some clear up-close pics, you'll get a lot of help from the Forum Members. As to the HE designation, that's listed as the base 250 horse engine with Manual Trans, the HF was listed for the next option up, the 300 horse 327 also with Manual Trans. Here's the front stamped pad from my 65 300 horse Coupe, the VIN is just a bit before the roadsters VIN.

If the car's VIN (below the glove box) is 194675S104552, it's probably the original block; the block casting date, engine assembly date, and the car's assembly date all line up normally. Not many folks go to the trouble of restamping base engines.
