66 - headlight switch
on a 66, i am looking to swap out the headlight switch
1 - what modern day tool is good for getting the "ferrule" off?
2 - from the diagram in the service manual, it looks like there might be a clip on top of the assembly that hangs it onto a little ledge? - or once the ferrule is off is it just loose?
3 - any tips on getting the old wiring socket out w/o cracking/breaking it? - is there some kind of equivalent to penetrating fluid that softens brittle plastic up a bit to avoid breaking it? (the service manual says using a screwdriver is ok to pry it apart...)
when i refer to the service manual i am looking at the pages attached
thanks!

Repro houses sell a tool that works it's not the best but it works. It you can cheap out and use needle nose pliers.

or you might have the tool in your tool box...
1. A pair of angled needle nose pliers...

2. nope, there is a 'keyed' slot that lines up the switch into cluster...
3. screw driver works just fine....take you time...
what is a "keyed slot?" - is it just a shape that lines up only one way? - how does it connect...does it friction fit in? snap in?
thanks!

If your inst fuse OR your tail lamp fuse is blown, you won't get any instrument lights. The voltage goes through the tail lamp fuse first so that your dash lights go out to let you know you have no tail lamps. It's the second fuse from the bottom and it's a 10 amp. The inst fuse is the third fuse from the bottom and it's a 4 amp. Don't just look at the tail lamp fuse, measure it or change it. The fuse can separate from the end cap and look good, but be open.
