Default BB Help

I found a correctly dated BB for my 67'. The engine is all apart, it is standard bore and it has a tag that says it has been magnafluxed. It comes with heads, crank, pistons, balancer and fly wheel. I am wandering:

- How much should I pay for it?
- How hard will it be to find the other parts, exhaust and intake manifolds, pulleys, carburetor, bell housing etc. and how much will I have to pay for them?
- What should I have checked / done to the block? Dipped / cleaned, new cam bearings inserted, ??
- Do people go 0.030 over as a matter of course when putting one of these old engines back together?
- If I do have it bored over, I assume I will have to buy new pistons. Is that a good idea anyway?
- I assume I can reuse the crank? Is that recommended?
- I planned on maintaining the CR they were originally built with. This is a 390 HP engine, I believe it was 10.5:1. Is that recommended?

I don't plan to go out and drag race with this car, but I do not want to have to be worried about the engine coming apart when I do feel the urge to bang a few gears. This car will be a keeper and a driver. It took me two years to find the car, and I just sprung for a lot of fiberglass and a very nice paint job to put it back to what the tank sticker said. If I put this engine in it it will be back to original specs.

Your thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would guess the whole thing would run 10k or so
by the time you find everything you will need.
What do they want for the long block? 4-5k?
(I dont know all that much about the 390 hp engine's)
Will you be looking for dated parts?
Or does it matter to you?
Will make a difference.........
Comp was 10.25 to 1, I would bore if its the std bore,
and you will need new pistons, the crank should able to be used.
All the little things can kill you.
I would make a list, and add it up.
Motor mounts, fan, rad, dist. on and on and on............

TRW 2300 F , are the correct pistons, they have a .15 dome ,although listed as 10.25 actually work out as 10 to 1...........just adding my 2 cents...I already did what your thinking of.but "if" I was doing it again would go withGM 454 CU..425 HP engine sell new for 5k or so & runs on reg fuel ...if you put old valve covers & air cleaner onyou could tell veryone it was a 427............I spent a lot $$$$ on my 427........its a correct 1966 engine & restamped ...take a look at the PAW calalog , page 66, has everthing you need ,427 Long block(439 cu in)$ 2,695- PAW TEL# 818 678 3000 :smash: good luck with your project :seeya :flag
Amendum my L36 , has no headers, 308 gears , 9.5 comp ratio,as a consequence of Endlebrock alum heads ,110 cc chambers.... & best ET so far 13.7 @102 MPH .....will be running again at oldieds day, lokking for 13.3 ET with better traction,,,,,,,,,,,.the Dog
