simple rag joint question
i was at the milwaukee "badger vettes" show yesterday [great show; nice people] and i was looking at the various rag joint setups. they went all the way from a rag joint that was squeezed between the upper and lower couplers [ie the rag joint was very wavy and conformed to the curved shape of the couplers] to the more standard setup where the rag is a flat disc, straight up and down.

The carcass portion of the rag joint should be nice and flat - not distorted in either direction. The correct assembly procedure to achieve this is shown in both the Service Manual and the Assembly Manual. Bubba shouldn't be allowed to touch safety systems like steering and brakes, but you see things like that all the time.
