I hope to re-install my cluster today. I forget where it is grounded. I did a search of this forum and saw pic of the male connector at the top of the cluster. My cluster doesn't have that connector. My car is a 63, the cluster is a 65. The black ground wire has a round connector, not a female. Does that wire have to be connected to the cluster or can I mount it to the cross member behind the cluster?
I don't know about a '65 but a '63 cluster should have that spade connector at the top; if not you'll have to find how a '65 cluster grounds or Bubba something...
The harness is lectric limited. I replaced it about 5 years ago. Everything worked fine prior to removal. I was just waiting for it to warm up outside before I tried to re-install. Going out now. I will give an update in a few hours
unless I'm confused, a 'ground-is-a-ground'; so if you have a round (ring terminal), attached it to any screw or stud on the cluster that is not a regular connection (such as for a gauge, light, etc)

That's what I plan to do. I didn't get quite that far. Attached speedo and tach. Connected all gauges, still have to plug in the bulbs. I encountered a much more serious problem. Of the five places where the cluster attaches to the dash, three of mine are almost broken. I tried to repair them with thin steel and JB weld, but it didn't hold. Does anybody have any suggestions?
The spring 2015 issue of The Corvette Restorer magazine has an article "Repairing a 1963-67 Cluster Tab. If you are a member of NCRS or have a friend who is you may want to consider repairing them like the article explains including photos of the process.
