Doesn't the high beam headlight have the 3 prongs (hi & lo beam) and the high beam headlight have 2 prongs? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
I believe the initial part of your question should have been the "low beam" or outboard lamp rather than the "high beam" having 3 prongs. It performs a dual function and requires the 3 prongs for that dual purpose. The "high beam" or inboard lamp provides a single function and requires just 2 prongs.
