Default Wheel and tire question???

Will 15 x 7 rally wheel with a P215/70 R15 tire have enough clearance??? For a 66 stock body?

I run that tire size as well, but on a stock 5.5 inch rim...

Don't forget about backspacing specs. The same wheel/tire combo may or may not fit depending on where the combo fits within the body.

I know a 5.5", a 6" will fly but just not so sure about a 7" wheel??
That is the question????
There you go, some members say NP other say not so much.
Just don't want to get into something I cannot be sure about.

I understand. What I am trying to point out is a 15X7 inch wheel description does not fully describe the wheel. Wheels have different backspacing which can affect fitment and clearance. GM produced 15X7 wheels in 3 3/4" BS and 4 1/4" BS. One may fit and one may not. Then add in aftermarket wheels and there are probably several more. I don't know the answer to your question but you need BS specs as well as diameter and width to really size a wheel for fit.

Good luck.

Thanks Tom
I am contemplating a switch from K.O.s to an original 66 wheel cover set up or a 67 rally wheel set up.
Member Moxie has a set of 67 rallys for sale in the C2 parts section.
Look nice they are 15 x 7 rallies but don't know if they will fly.

Where did you get your black rims for wheel cover application?

Thanks

Have Moxie double check his wheels. Pretty sure 67 had 6" wheels. 68 was the only year that had 7" on a Corvette.

Thanks Moxie.
There you go Nicola. Now you have complete wheel specs for fitment questions and comparison.

I wonder how many people think they have 7" rally rims but actually have 6" rims.

The rim is not measured from the inner edge to the outter edge, but to the mounting surfaces that are inset 1/2" on either side.

My '64 came to me with 6" rally wheels and 235/70/15s and everything cleared fine. I thought they were 7" rims until I got the Western Wheel 7" turbine wheels and noticed that they were an inch wider than the rally wheels and were clearly marked 15x7.

My '65 Vette with 15 x 7" rims with backside spacing of 4 1/4" and P215-70-15 tires. Combo fits really well. I had previously relocated the parking brake cables to the top side of the trailing arms for some Cragars, but am not sure if the stock cable location would be an issue. BTW, I now have the same tires on some repro KO wheels (15 x 6) - the 7" rims definitely have better handling than the 6" rims.
