i have what is supposed to be a somewhere around 1966, 327, 300 horse engine with the pad # "F04288W". what does that decode to? although this is in a non-gm car i was hopeful i could get a clarification from the forum on this. (i do have a vette if that will somewhat legitimatize my request). thank you.

Looks like there were 4 codes for a 66 327/300...

HE . 327 .300 . Manual Trans.
HH . 327 ..300 .. K19 & ManualTrans.
HO . 327 .300 . Powerglide
HR ..327 ..300 .. K19 & Powerglide

It would need to have one of these 2 letter codes instead of 8W.

If a Chevy engine, F is for Flint, and 0428 for April 28.

If the front pad is really stamped FO4288W, it's most likely for a marine, industrial, or agricultural application; that format wasn't used for cars and trucks.

john, that is for sure the correct stamping, all are very clear. it is SUPPOSED to be the original engine in a '66 avanti ll that i have, my hope was to find out for sure. thanks for your input.

Could be, but I'm not familiar enough with the Avanti to know exactly what engine they bought from Chevrolet.
