I have owned my 66, L79 since 1974 so i know for a fact its the original 3:70 gears...my car is a Dec. 14 build date
Question:
Is it possible to determine what/which Posi Unit is in the car without disassembling it by just using the Build Date...
I hear/someone told me there are 2 different type of DANA UNITS?
I am thinking of changing Ratio's...
TIA
Gary Ramadei can help you. Google the name, and send him an email. He rebuilds these rears every week. He used to be on this forum, but now spends most of his time at NCRS Forum.
The answer to your question is also in the archives if you search.

Dana posi units were only used in '63-'64, and most of those have been converted to Eaton units as the original weak Dana units failed. '65-up all used Eaton units.
