Does anyone make C1 headers that don't require minor alterations to either the car or the header to make them fit properly? In my search, I haven't found any that are true "bolt on". I always see comments such as "modify frame flange", "grind header collector flange", etc. Heads are standard Chevy - no angle plugs.
They have not made Hedman headers for C1 corvettes in about 5 years. They are the same headers I run in my black car. They are they only true header that advertises that they will fit angle plug heads. What heads are you using??
I do have new, un-used set of Hedmans that are coated. Jim

The car is a 62. Heads are standard Chevy, 2.02 intake, 1.60 exhaust, no angle plugs.
My Hedman required notching the drivers side frame
Yep. That's what I'm trying to avoid. The car had headers on it (unknown brand) and the upper frame rail flange on the passenger side looked like someone used a hacksaw and meat cleaver to "notch" it for header clearance. That just got repaired. I may need to stay with 2.5" exhaust manifolds to avoid the frame mods.
I have been putting headers on C1 vettes for 50 years, never had to cut the frame. No one has stated whether or not the cuts to the frame were for left to right clearance or clearance to hook up the remainder of the exhaust system. If the latter, that is just a lack of fabrication skills. None of the current headers will dump even with the exhaust holes in the frame. You have to off set your pipes to either go through or under the frame.
With your straight plug heads, the Hooker Comps and Super Comps will have a problem with the stock starter. If you are using a Mini starter, no problem. The thing with " 10.4" flywheel " is BS with the Mini starter.
The Hedman 68136 headers are the most versatile headers I have found, fitting evey angle plug head I have tried. All others work on some , but not on others.

I have Hooker super comps on my '58. They fit no problem but as others have noted, Hooker says they won't work with angle plug heads. Send a PM to Rickw001, if I recall he found currently available "Headers by Doug" (different from Doug Thorley) that will fit angle plug heads.
When I bought my 61, I found that the Hooker Comps made this annoying screeching sound when the drivers side collector rubbed against the lower flange of the frame rail. A little grinder work helped to gain some clearance and still seals well. One other thing to mention, I believe the reason the Hooker headers were so close to the frame was due to their efforts to leave enough room for the oil filter but I found it was a bit tight to use a filter wrench so I've gone to the K&N types that have the hex protrusion on the bottom.
