Default Progress on 64 refresh

So much work going on. Feels weird to have the car at someone's shop other than mine.

Dave (the paint man) has been going around and repairing cracks.

There's a lot of em...

I'm pleased that he is not just using bondo. He is using glass.

Meanwhile, I'm refreshing the interior

Cluster

Console (new inlays and ashtray door)

Even the damn sun visors

The cluster looks great.......Just wondering though, aren't the outside of the rings supposed to be flat (as you have them), and the inside, a shiny chrome? I ask because that's how they are on my 64, but that doesn't mean they are correct by any means......I'm finding lots of bubba ideas on my car.

Keep up the good work, your really coming along nicely...

Thanks. Looks waaaay better than it did.

I'm not sure - the sources here and elsewhere say they are silver with just the upper edge being chrome. Mine were pretty beat up so they got painted.

Then I scraped off the paint from the edge

I had a hell of a time getting adhesion (only took me three times to paint it) - finally the solution was to rough up the chrome with 180 grit, prime with self etching primer, then color.

Wow that's a lot of work......I think now that you mention it, I have heard that it's just the face of the lip that's chrome, my silver is most likely long worn off.....

Keep posting pic's....I'm taking notes ...

Default I am the type of guy that if someone

Has one of my cars! Then I would want to hold one of theirs for ransom!

PS has your guy repaired a bunch of surfboards in his past career???? His technique kind of makes me think so!

Boats and Corvettes. Old school guy. Crazy good paint man. I need to find more money for him or I'll never see that car again.
