Default 61 vette

Just put new engine in and the voltage regulator was over charging..Battery looked like a soccer ball.have to keep lights on all the time..What to do to fix the problem or by pass the regulator..Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Have an alternator..

First off, you would be better served to post this in the C1/C2 section. I will ask the mods to move it there.

Secondly, some additional info is needed to diagnose your problem. Does the new alternator have an internal voltage regulator, or did you keep the original external one - a small black box mounted on the fender?

If its a new style internal regulator, there's not much you can do, other than return/exchange it if it's a recent purchase. If it's older you may need to just get another one. Some alternators with internal regulators have a removable/replaceable circuit board, but I'm not sure if you want to go to that level.

If you have the old style external regulator, sometimes the internal switch sticks. A sharp rap on the metal case or adjacent fender might free it up. Otherwise those are easy and cheap to replace, and there is even a solid state upgrade available.
