Hello all. Anyone have any experience with the leaf spring clips that are sold by Jegs and Summit? I have a 57 with 5-leaf setup that is missing 2 clips on driver's side. Probably contributed to my wheel hop issue a while back.
I'm not looking to restore the springs with proper banding (yes, I know I should) but just want to avoid a mishap. Passenger side spring has a total of 4 clips that appear to be original, driver's side only has 2 that are towards the outer ends, and only capture 2 leaves. Not sure if they broke or what happened.
Just get the right thing from the repro vendors and you won't have to worry. It will require a banding clamp tool; many borrow them from warehouses. Those clips are actually rebound clips and keep the leaves together when the suspension unloads. Without them you can crack a leaf spring....
Thanks for the info. I'm not sure how long these have been missing, but I am pretty sure my car was raced sometime in it's life. I don't know if spring might have been replaced at some point with a non- matching set; it makes me wonder if all clips were there from the git-go!
