There has been the rare occassion when I wished my Vette had hazzard lights. I know upgrading to an wiring harness as advertised in Rod & Custom or Street Rodder would provide this function. However in the interim is there a way to do this ?
I would expect that you could hook up a flasher circuit using an isolation diode at each lamp (would need to be high current capable like a 5 amp 50V min. rating), along with a flasher, on/off switch, and the wiring (from +12V source, to the switch, then the flasher, and finally to each diode and lamp). That way you are doing minimal "damage" to the existing wiring/circuitry (especially in the turn signal switch area). The voltage drop across the diodes (.7 V typical) results in a minimal drop in visual output.
Only concern is when you are operating both the "regular circuit" turn signal, and the hazard warning, the lamps will receive current from more than one source, which means they might be on all the time (not flashing at all, or at least very confused).
If the brakes and hazard are energized at the same time, then the rear lamps would be on all the time (brake lamp circuit would override the flashing circuit).
