For those who have used an LS1 in your C1 restomod with the huge computer where did you mount it and do you have any pictures? I hear they are weather proof so under the hood would be ok.
If you mounted one of the smaller computers for an LS2/3 I would also be interested in seeing pics of where you mounted it.
But I mounted mine to the inner fender, so not to ahve screws thru the firewall.
I also made a nice sheetmetal shield,a nd had it matte black powder coated, which attaches to the inner fender under the hood drip rail,a nd extends down as far as i could make it go, both as heat shield,a nd a way to had a bunch of unsightly harness and relays back in with the ECU.
I have mounted two of them (56and58) behind the passenger side kick panel. Fits very nicely, easy to hide the wires, no worries about heat, dirt or moisture, easy acess if needed.
I used seam epoxy to glue a 3/4" thick mounting board to the inside of the fender then used screws to mount the units. The factory harness has Plenty of length to accomplish this. I run my harness through a drilled, grometed hole hidden in the trans tunnel to avoid it going through the firewall and keeping it out of sight. Brian
Not the best pics and actually the drivers side where I mount the fuse box but you will get the idea of epoxying in a base to mount the unit. Brian
Love the gluing some wood on idea!
I also like the idea of location but the computer for an LS1 is HUGE and I have aftermarket cowl and door supports which have a small hole. I guess I could cut it out some but I still think it will be too big.
This is why I have been considering the Holley harness which comes with a much smaller computer that would fit there.
I could also maybe get it under the drivers floor board on the angle. Hav to see how much room when the body is on the chassis.
Curt, I haven't seen that style cowl support before but I imagine you could either cut it or take it out and re-install it once the computer is mounted in place. Happy to see your getting closer, Brian
