Well, I'm a very happy man because I have finally found the reason why my engine leaks like a sieve. After washing for the umpteenth time, including the underside and the rear suspension components, removing the trans and bellhousing, and running the motor while it's supported by a concrete block with padding under the pan.......................I FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!
The steel mounting plate for the fuel pump!
I have always used the paper gasket there, with Permatex. Is there anything better? I'm thinking either silicone or Permatex Form-A-Gasket.
Chrissakes, if this fixes my oil soaked engine, it's drinks for everybody, on me.
Use, "Permatex Right Stuff" will seal it up used along with gasket...
that will definitely solve it, I had same problem with oil on lower front of engine thought it was timing cover gasket, I stumbled on the leak replacing the fuel pump and decided to remove the plate
The new cars don't even use gaskets in many areas the Permatex is so good. R&R'd front timing cover & oil pan on Toyota DD, nothing but sealer there. The key to getting a good result is like paint work, good preparation. Must be super clean, bone dry, and allowed proper time to set up.
