Default Top lid

How strong is the top lid on a '62. I have been talked into bringing my granddaughter and a date to her high school prom. Choice is to squeeze them into the pass seat or to let them sit up on the lid. Only going to be a couple miles from the restaurant and the school. Neither of the kids is very big, maybe 250 pounds for the both of them. What to do ?

That lid will hold double that weight all day long. Lots of folks have carried high school kids, 2-3 beauty queens and fat azz politicians on that deck lid.

And when some drunk rear-ends you, or someone trying to snap your picture runs into you, you will find out how much pain and liability you have signed on to.

A parade is different than driving on an open public road. A parade car is traveling at walking speed, 3-5 miles per hour. What is the speed limit on the road you and others will be traveling? Let your granddaughter sit on her date's lap if you're set on driving them.

Really ? Don't be foolish. We have far, far too many tragedies on our roads today. One slip, one mistake can result in a lifetime of regret. Find a better way and exercise some common sense.

I'm not telling you to do it but they should fit fine in the passenger seat.

As I stated the deck lid will hold a lot of weight; however having folks sit on the lid while traversing public roads at any kind of speed is just silly stupid. Don't do it.

Somebody taps you or your foot slips off the clutch and you have a couple of kids in the street in highway traffic.

To all my fellow Corvette owners and drivers who have been doubting my intelligence and sanity, rest easy. The game plan from the start was to drive the youngsters in the PASSENGER SEAT to and from the restaurant.

The only question was the strength of the top lid as I planned to drive the LAST 100 YARDS into the school driveway up to the entrance with the kids sitting up on the lid AT A WALKING PACE, similar to a parade.

This last section of travel is a GAUNTLET of hundreds of cheering parents and fellow classmates honoring the prom attendees

Good News! Now all you have to be concerned about is when your granddaughter realizes the ride from the restaurant is going to mess up her hair!

I can’t imagine even two teenagers sharing the passenger seat of a C1 for any distance, especially dressed in a tux and formal dress.

If you really loved your granddaughter, you’d let her date drive and take pictures as they drove away!
