Understand, and thanks.

Keep in mind that a bolt is actually a spring. Torque settings are nothing more than a way of setting the spring tension. If the spring isn't tightened properly you won't have the proper clamping force.

If you over tighten the bolt you've stretched the spring too far and it will never return to it's original length.

Here's more than you ever need to know about nuts and bolts.

No hard feelings I hope!

But it was your post #11 after #6, that made me do it, at least that is what story I will stick to!:chee rs:

I was confused by your criticism, since you and I are usually on the same side of the fence when it comes to improving our classic cars. Happy to hear that you were just funnin' me.
But, in response to what you said earlier, each flange has three, not four bolts and nuts.

PS: I enjoy most of your posts, although I can't always read through the longer ones. What is it that you're smokin' most of the time?

Yes that's exactly correct. That's why I backed them off and settled for thirty foot pounds. See post # 8...............no......I mean post #6. Should still be more than enough clamping force to keep that part of the ladder frame rigid.

You had better use the Grade 8!

I did realize that in my first post, some of what I had typed, I accidently cut and didn't repaste, so I can see where the confusion came from, but some of the overall advice was still valid. And yes I taught myself to type, so I practice a lot on Corvette Forum. I think I am up to like 37 words per minute now!

Oh, and naturally I have to jazz up my posts with all kinds of content! If I didn't, then everyone would think an imposter stole my CF identity!

Let's talk about exposure- lets see there has been a lot of different welding gases, naturally the permatex mentioned from the permatex thread, green goo stuff in the military, and jet/helicopter fuels, and I even got radiated on, various octane boosters (you have to smell the tailpipe to know if you got your mix right, etc. etc. etc. etc.). They should probably quarantine me!
