It was my experience that Jeff delivered promptly when I was holding the money and slowly when he had the money.

slow start I have a fabricator friend building a birdcage in that big fiberglass bowl of jelly . I can not believe that some guys just leave that roof structure hollow . When done this car will be more rigid than a factory car .

Who built your bird cage? How did it work out? Are you racing it? Are they interested in doing another?

Your best bet to have a Grand Sport with a birdcage structure (that's what I think you are inquiring about) is to look for one built by the late Jeff Leach who ran Mid America Industries.

All the Grand Sports he built have stock Sting Ray birdcages and VIN plates.

Default Mid Am Grand sport

I have been working on a Jeff leach GS for many years it’s a GM original roadster with the 4” tube chassis and C 4 suspension
i started with a bow tie race block L88 2 stage heads a kinsler crossram fuel injection system
Then I retired moved to FL the all the health problems started ,so the work on the car came to a halt
also my wife had a stroke more problems I’m know back on the car wiring the kinsler fuel injection I also ran the body harness
moving along but slow can’t leave the wife long she. Has been falling more so now I take her out to bathe garage
I never new their was so many guys interested in the older GS
I will try to keep you updated on the project
if I can help anybody just text or email me here have fun

Hi Ben,
I have a Mid America project that needs to find a new home. The tub is a 64 Coupe with a valid California title. I started this task in 1989 when I ordered the full fiberglass and frame package. The fiberglass parts were a disappointment so I have re- fabricated almost all bits to look correct. I have also modeled and fabricated the complete interior tank cover, door skins. gas filler tube, brake cooling plenums and more. All of my molds will be included. If you are interested I can send you the details.

Thanks Greg

Hi Greg (sent you a PM, but my computer acted funny, so not sure it sent correctly) Below is what I sent.
Just read your post regarding a Grand Sport project. Your frame looks like the original which is what I am interested in (2 big main tubes, not multiple small tubes on the the current offerings which use late model suspension and end up with a wider track) Does your project use the C2/C3 suspension ? And narrower ? Does it fit under non-flared bodywork ? The direction of my interest is the prototype 63/64 Grand Sport. Not what they morphed into.
Would love to talk to you.

The suspension is C-4 and this frame will not fit under a standard corvette tub because the GS primary frame tubes are inboard from the standard C2 frame members that are running under the door jams.

My tub has been modified the fit the GS frame and the only bits you will need is to add both the stock front and rear clips and hood that attach to the tub bonding strips. The stock body clips and hood will allow my tub to look like the phase one GS with Duntov behind the wheel.

Default Modified Mid America Industries GS

I’m near the end of my project. It’s a 65 with a Mid America Industries frame. I don’t think I had high blood pressure before dealing with Jeff Leech! Here is a couple photos:

You aren't the only one. Nice enough fellow, but he had the worst time-management skills of anyone I've ever met.

May he rest in peace.

You have that right Jim !! Gary at Mongoose over the past few years has picked up at Jeff's shop a number of GS projects that Jeff collected the money for and did not finish. When I visited Gary back in September 2020 he showed me another GS coupe he had picked up from the MId America estate . It was another not finished but fully paid for Jeff Leach production. I'll miss talking with Gary about the Mid America follies !!! ------ Ken
