dumb and DUMBER ...
Well, Duke's post on another topic kinda rung a bell in my head having to do with the "bent valve" .. .. .. :D ... I'll share my "dumb" experience as a point of information .. I was working on my 'ol Gold Wing Honda and had removed the cam timing belts to do some cleaning .. Anyway, the time came to reinstall the belts line up the timing marks .. I pulled out the manual that spells out the "how to" and so forth ... Belts installed, ready to go .. For whatever reason I blipped the electric starter and there was this "lurch" ... I think I heard a sound too .. ?? .. Hmmmm .. ? .. Not long afterward I noticed a couple of valves didn't appear to line up, height wise, with the others .. ??! ... Oht OHHhhhh .. ?? .. Naaaahhhhh, it couldn't be a BENT valve, could it .. ? ... But HOW .. ?? .. I had this sick feeling .. I pulled out the manual and this time I read it carefully, instead of the first time when I pretty much flashed through the reading procedure .. I found out that there were two timing marks .. ?!? ... - - "T1" and "T2" ... Well, needless to say I was 180 degrees off ... ! .. Two bent exhaust valves .. Those little suckers were kinda pricey, alright ... - - almost 50 bucks a POP .. !
..
The point I wanted to make is that I should have read more thoroughly the service procedure and then turned the engine by hand ONLY ..
If any resistance: STOP .. ! ... A valve is hitting a piston .. Well, sometimes we pay as we go to learn "lessons" .. :D .. I'll be sure to double check things when the 327 gets it's makeover ...
Duke ... I won't ask ..
