thank you so much....also, one more quick question. my L/H door will not catch and stay open....does this require an entire new door hinge to fix, or is there a pin that can be replaced like on the C3 cars?? Rick
Rick, the inside door release mechanisms are pretty simple but with time, wear out and get sloppy or the small return spring falls apart. When you lightly pull the inside ****, as if you're going to try to open the door, and then release it, does the **** spring back to it's forward position? Along with that cotton sleeve which helps reduce rattles on the connecting rod for the inside release mechanism, the actual release part might need to be replaced. They aren't that expensive but wait till you have the door panel off and inspect first.

There a sliders top and bottom of hinge that control door opening detents. They are horizontal and you can see them in the jamb. Its those or maybe time to rebuild the hinges.
The repro inside door latches are crap. Get a used original or a rebuild kit. I threw my repro in the trash.
