64 light switch ???

64 light switch ???
When I was restoring the dash cluster on my 64, I figured out how to remove the **** and stem by depressing the button on the rear top of the switch, but now I cant seem to get it to click(lock) back in. What am I doing wrong?

See if you can get enough 'bite' on the **** shaft when inserted to pull the light switch out to the full "ON" position (e.g. headlights would normally be on. Then withdraw the **** and shaft and try re-inserting it...to get to the retention "click".
