Default 58 - Missing grab bar bracket under dash

I just noticed that it appears that I'm missing the grab bar bracket that is above the radio and under the dash. The grab bar bracket on the left bolts into this. I have the bracket on the right.

All I have is two holes in the fiberglass.

I'm assuming it was there for 58??

Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone ever make one? I really don't know what they look like except I saw a picture that Rich posted on a thread, but its just the corner and not very clear.

I'm surprised it's missing. It bolts the the instrument cluster reinforcement(right) and the left grab bar bracket.

I found more photos.

Maybe you have it. If not, I'd try to locate one used. but yes tough to find. You'd need one as a template to try to duplicate. You have too many other things to do.

That'll be a tough one to find. I looked around a bit this morning and nothing in the usual places (eBay, larger vendors)....

However, Mary Jo (partsqueen) may have one. Is this the right thing Rich?

I was just on ebay myself and didn't see one but my search string obviously wasn't adequate.

Great find. Seems a fair price for a hard to find piece. Not one of my favorite sellers, nor his, but sometimes you gotta give in. This part is pretty straightforward so I think it'll not be "wrong".

Yeah -- I've had to suck it up and pay a stiff price, and deal with some folks I'd rather not, for rare pieces for the '63. Power brake booster comes to mind.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do....

Thanks guys!!

When I found out it was missing, I also send Wilbur an email (as he has a 58) to make sure our cars even had them. You know the 58 was an "off-the-wall" model, so it wouldn't have surprised me if they put it in later. But Wilbur's car has it and he also found MJ had it.

Yea, sometime you have to suck it up. After looking at it...not an easy part to make.

Thanks for the info. I had a few people message me and provide me pictures and information. I have never seen this part in all the years I have had the corvette. Didn't even know it existed had I not looked closely at the AIM.

I bracket came in from CC...not in bad shape...some pitting, but not too bad.

Question...was it "bondo" on both ends, or did it "float"?

I could swear I saw an original assembly picture of this part and it called for the part to be "cemented" in place. I know it will work just fine not cemented, in fact it might be better for slight adjustments...but it bugs me as to where I saw it. Am I losing it here?

Bolts in (meaning I didn't cement it in). I found mine in a box of parts that came with the car. Didn't know what it was so I took it to a local C1 restorer and he knew exactly where it went.
