When Herb 'firstgear' came back to me again (and since I knew his meticulous restoration of a C1 and another hot rod) I jumped on it and eventually purchased the car. I knew it would be nice because Herb's near fanatical attention to detail -- and I was right. Call that forum 'validation' if you want...
and also Chazde3's '68 Charlie's Toywith L88 not to mention many other great cars.
Thanks, Ed
Hey that's me lol. Came across this doing a search. I don't think having a forum presence would necessarily alter the price tag on a car. But in my case you couldn't pry the keys out of my hand anyways
Paperwork is a big deal. You don't get it on a forum though.
People will pay more for cars that has a documented history back to Day 1.
People will pay more for a NCRS/Duntov car. The same if you have a Bloomington Gold award.
Some people think that a magazine feature will increase the value. I'm not really sold on this one.
If you want to see a true marketing genius take a look at Magnus Walker and his 911 collection. He managed to turn himself into a celebrity and increase the value of his cars in the process. Big time.
As you might guess he's not admired by everyone but he has made a lot of money selling his cars.
The we have the Janis Joplin 356 Porsche that sold for $1.6 million a few weeks ago. That was all about Janis and had nothing at all to do with Porsche. The wild part was that the car had been restored and the paint was not original.
Not sure a forum presence adds anything to the provenance of a vehicle -- pretty sure it doesn't in fact. There is a wide variety of opinion here with varying degrees of expertise.
So, a fellow forum member saying thus and such about your car prob doesn't mean squat with a very few exceptions and those folks are very circumspect (understandably) in giving their opinions to safeguard their reputation.
Having said that - some forum members' cars are very well known on here so the quality and detail of the work done on them is widely seen. That might firm up a price if they are selling but I doubt its bumps the price up appreciably.
Frankie... You just just shot yourself in the foot! Of course a forum car is worth way more!
