Default Stolen Corvette

Another Corvette was stold at the Woodward Dream Cruise this year. This one is a red 66 roadster taken from the parking garage in Birmingham. It seem like every year someone gets their Vette stold in Birmingham during the cruise....the owner is female and it was her dream car.

Damn....sorry to hear of this!

Hopefully, she is saturating the internet, media, and any other forms of notification to the masses.

There is hope as some are actually recovered, but she has to be aggressive with getting information out.

It was a 66 and there is video of the car leaving the parking structure but not very good quality.

No, the 66 was stolen. The 64 was stold.

I think there is a BIG potential market for things like Lo-Jack and other tracking systems. Personally I wish they could use something that - with a push of a button by the legal owner - zap a shot of 240 volts between the pedals and the wheel somehow.

Sure, then you go to jail, and the thief goes free. I am sure you know that this could be done with a little home made circuit. There are some large capacitors( well there were back in the day)that can hold a big charge for a long time.

I hate that somebody's classic got stolen.....seems vermin are everywhere.

I like to think I would just call the cops and holler real loud if I caught somebody in the act and they would run off. But my Italian might kick in and I'd forget I'm 64 years old so I might go postal and get my azz kicked (but I might not)....

I once chased a couple of guys in my '67 Camaro (they had a '69 Camaro) at triple digit speeds with Dad's .45 when I woke up and caught them trying to steal my Keystone mags in the '60s. I cooled down and let them get away....seems silly now.

Turned out my buddies knew the car and it was a kid from another high school. I caught up to him at Shoney's one Saturday night and lets say we settled out of court..

Really, really hope the owner gets the car back undamaged!

I know it CAN be done, and I also know the bad guy then becomes the "victim". I bet if it were OK do do such things, though, the crime rate would be lower.

Unfortunately, our old cars are extremely easy to hot wire. The ignition system is not very complicated, the steering column doesn't lock, and unless you have an aftermarket alarm, there is little to deter a thief. And since these cars are easy to get into, they are very easy to steal.

One old, simple trick that I learned with my old Jaguar XKEs when we were doing road trips was to remove the wire that runs from the coil to the distributor when we parked the cars for the night. Most crooks don't carry spare ignition wires with them, and when they hot wire the car and try starting it, it's a no-go. It turns over, but it won't start. Time is their enemy, so if it doesn't start quickly, they split rather than risk getting caught. They are not going to pop the hood and start trying to fix it.

Of course, some truly determined thieves simply use a flatbed, and there is little you can do to stop that, short of sleeping in your car. But some prevention is worth it. So if you don't have an alarm in your car and you're worried about it being stolen, take the coil to distributor wire with you. Just remember to bring it back in the morning.

Default Car stolen during test drive @ gunpoint

I had a 68 BBC Camaro SS stolen from me at gunpoint during a test drive in 1984.

They caught the guy he went to prison for 20+ years. THEN during the World Series that had the earthquake during the game in Oakland our local newscast came up with this scumbags picture and he had been transferred to a halfway house, killed his roommate, stolen another 68 camaro within 20 miles from my house and went on a crime spree to TEXAS!

THis scumbag got surrounded by police during a botched robbery in a restaurant and they took the Manager hostage - a police chase occurred with the scumbag murdering the Manager.

I was subpoenaed to testify against him in court for habitual criminal to get the death penalty. Its not like on TV I thought I was guilty before I got off the stand! Anyway they found him guilty and got the death penalty - thats been 31 years a ago in TEXAS where they hang um high right?

WELL this scumbag has become schizophrenic and while on his medication he is ok - take him off meds he goes wacko - no big deal right? WELL they have petitioned that you cannot EXECUTE someone under medication - WTF…I say let him swing - after all its TEXAS!

MORAL to story - I don't go on test drives, IF I go I sit in the back seat & pack heat. I also never drive one of my classics without my little friend…

Be safe out there its getting crazy…...

Nutso, scary story!

Been two separate car jackings in a week here in Orlando by two separate gangs of black underage youths.....like 15 and 16 years old.
Both at gunpoint. First was a Federal agent on vacation that went down in the morning to set his GPS to find Disneyworld before the wife and kids came down from the motel. The punks pistol whipped him and drove him around for two yours. His smart wife called OnStar and asked the operator to call the car and they heard the guy yelling for help. All the perps got caught and the fella just got a couple of stitches.

Second was the same deal except it was a 77 year old disabled veteran. The animals dragged him from the car and took his oxygen tank too. WTF ? They were caught as well...

ALL of these ***** already had lengthy criminal records with violence at high school ages.

If you come here on vacation keep your wits about you

It's crazy what these poor, helpless, under privileged citizens, have become.

After all, I'm sure they were just experiencing a momentary lack of judgment.

I often wonder, how long the law abiding citizens are going to put up with this nonsense!!

Old Vet has good advise!

Default 2nd Amendment

Not much of that kind of action here in Vermont. We all carry guns and take a liberal interpretation of the 2nd. I can carry any(legal) weapon any time, anywhere. If I drive the 20min. across into NY, I am not allowed to carry a gun anywhere, anytime without a permit. My advise if you are traveling, would be to LEARN how to SAFELY use your personal protection of choice, then "don't leave home without it".

Talked to a good friend today, who is a Corvette owner and very knowledgeable on C-2's, that on Saturday at approx. 12:40PM he saw the exact same car as the stolen car going south on Telegraph just south of Maple (15 Mile). He thought it was strange, given the temp, that the driver was driving the car with the top and windows up and that was why he took note of the car. Info passed on to the P.D.
