I do NOT disagree with this.
However, the factory specs for my 2004 Z06 lugs are 100ft lbs, and they are the same size. Also my 1963 Z06 wheels would loosen their lugs when used on a racetrack with mag wheels and race tires, so I have used 100ft lbs on my 1963 race car for um.......40 years or so.
With American Racing TTD aluminum rims with the cone lug nuts, I had to go up to 85 ft.-lbs. before I stopped seeing the need to retorque.
I started at 65, and saw loosening after a few rides.
In other words, depends on the rim material, size of the stud, the shape of the lug nut interface to the rim, etc.
Start with the factory torque setting, and see if they are still tight after a few heat cycles. If not tight, step up in 5 or 10 ft.-lbs. increments (within reason) until they stay tight.
I just looked up the wheel torque recommendation in the 1967 Chassis Service Manual and it says 75 pounds so that's what I used and I'll recheck after I've put some miles on the car.
